How Long Must I Wait? One Board’s Policy Change About Waiting Before Another Examination Attempt
Track: Business of Certification
The National Board for Respiratory changed its policy about candidates waiting before making another examination attempt after a fail result. The prior policy permitted as many attempts as a candidate wanted and let a candidate make another attempt without waiting. Areas of concern brought on by the prior policy will be discussed. Depending on the credential that is sought, the new policy creates one of two waiting periods after a candidate reaches one of two thresholds on the number of attempts. Policy details will be described. Policies of several other credentialing organizations in the health professions will be shared since those contributed to the new policy.
