A New Way to Test: Creating and Using Animated Scenarios for a Licensure Exam

Track: Test Development and Administration

Session Number: 6065
Date: Wed, Nov 20th, 2019
Time: 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM

Description:

Animated scenarios are changing the way we assess a candidate’s true knowledge and skills. In this session, we’ll discuss how animated scenarios add dimension to standard item types because the short videos measure non-cognitive skills. We’ll dive into a case study of a new psychology exam to show you how animated scenarios better measure a test-taker’s capacity to respond correctly to real-life situations. Join us to discuss how this secondary skills-based exam introduces benefits for test development, since animated scenarios allow for more item types than a basic multiple-choice item. Animated scenarios are an engaging item type, and we’ll discuss our initial successes and opportunities for improving use of this item type in the future.
