Building or Up-fitting an Assessment-based Certificate Program

Track: Pre-Conference Workshops

Session Number: 4125
Date: Mon, Oct 23rd, 2017
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Pursuing accreditation for a new or existing assessment-based certificate program is no small undertaking; however, it can be approached using a step-by-step process that breaks down the elements of the program into manageable buckets. This session will present a very pragmatic, how-to approach to tackling the major elements of a successful, accredited certificate program, including: program administration, instructional design/program architecture, content development, the assessment, infrastructure, delivery, and ongoing program maintenance (from administration, content, and accreditation points of view). We will also discuss new vs. existing programs (including “hybrids” that leverage existing content developed for other purposes to create a new certificate program), and the unique challenges of each. Participants will leave this session with “use tomorrow” checklists and tools to organize and plan their path to achieving and sustaining an accredited certificate program.
