Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics accomplish demanding tasks in extreme conditions under high stress.  Essential competencies for EMS professionals include a wide range of cognitive abilities and physical skills whose performance may determine survival for their patients.  As the certifying organization for emergency medical personnel, the National Registry of EMTs must carefully consider how to judge the provision of accommodations in certifying EMS professionals.  This session will provide an overview of the legal requirements, the NREMT approach to accommodations for cognitive and motor skill assessments and lessons learned for other professions.
